Oh my God, as a fellow migraine sufferer, I understand this so well! The number of people who have suggested magnesium, or squeezing pressure points, or God knows what else. I know they mean well, but I'm like, if this really was the miracle you think it is, me and my doctor would be all over it!

Indeed! I find it out that so many people tout these “miracle treatments.” It’s perhaps a symptom of our quick fix culture?

Yes, I think that's part of it and also that people truly don't understand that some illness is chronic. That you're stuck with it. And the best you can do is manage it, there's NOT a magic fix.

My mother has known me all my life and she STILL tries to give me advice for my migraines 😂 She finds stuff on Google and thinks it's news to me. Even though I’ve had MRIs, CT scans, being on the neurology clinic wait list for years, and finding a prescription that works for me, she STILL tries to diagnose why I get migraines. Oooh moms. 🤪

I couldn’t agree more!!!! After 40 years of living with lupus, I can’t chase after every so-called cure. It would take all my time and bankrupt me. I’ve had to decide where to draw the line.

But have you tried tarantula venom??

No, but I’m sure that would help. I live in Texas so I’ll run outside and find some and milk them right now!

Wait what about a stick and your feet?! I’ve never heard that one! May I add “moon water” to the list, courtesy of my mother, queen of unsolicited whack medical advice. Also from her, suspicion that you’re exaggerating, after all, SHE “grew out of them”.

Moon water…please explain!

🤣😂🤣 get a glass gallon jar, fill it with tap water (filtered), put on the lid, leave it out overnight under the full moon. It absorbs….um….good qualities from the moonlight. Or something like that. Whatever, it CURES WHAT AILS YA. I drink it when she pushes it and I don’t argue, it’s just water. I’m more opposed to apple cider vinegar (also cures what ails ya!) and stuff like that. ACV just makes me have a sour stomach, so hell no.

Great post. And advice floods in no matter what your ailment. I once had a dentist insist I’d gotten breast cancer because of the deodorant I used. Sorry, I’d rather have cavities than stay in that chair.

I have been told the same thing about deodorant except that it causes migraines 😂

“about 1 in every 100 pieces of unsolicited advice I’ve received about my chronic migraine disorder has been helpful.”

I was trying to work out which was the 1 for me😆 and it was the gluten - but even then, I did the research and followed up on it beyond someone mentioning that it helped them and made sure it was right for me.

Once I realised I was the one left with a mortgage to pay on my own and a disability that had stopped me from working I learned to drown out all the noise of everyone else’s opinions and tune into what my body was screaming at me. It was hard at the time.

Even if I knew someone really well and they had the same illness I’d still encourage them to tune into what their body was telling them.

Thanks for sharing! You have much more patience (and humor) with unsolicited advice than I do. I also don’t eat dairy. Or gluten. Or soy. And it sucks.

If I could stop the constant flow of advice, I still would. But gotta make the most of it 🤷‍♀️
